AUGMENTED REALITY APPLICATION FOR CHILDREN PICTORIAL DICTIONARY

The existing method of learning for young children, particularly through traditional pictorial dictionaries, can be dull and non-interactive, leading to a lack of engagement and motivation in early education. Additionally, children today are digital natives who have high expectations for interactive learning experiences, making conventional teaching methods less effective. To address this issue, this project aims to develop an Augmented Reality (AR) application for a Children’s Pictorial Dictionary on mobile devices. This application allows users, especially children, to scan images in the pictorial dictionary and view interactive 3D models, enhancing their understanding of objects through rotation and manipulation. The app also includes pronunciation guides with audio support to help children learn correct pronunciations. The ADDIE methodology, which consists of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation phases, is applied in developing this application. A questionnaire was distributed among UNISEL students and other respondents, gathering feedback from 41 participants via Google Forms and WhatsApp. The results indicate that most respondents agree that incorporating AR into education significantly enhances children's interest in learning. Furthermore, the majority found AR suitable for pictorial dictionaries, as multimedia elements like graphics, animations, text, and audio keep children engaged. This study highlights the potential of AR technology in modernizing preschool education by making learning more immersive, interactive, and effective.
